Apartments (known in other countries as 'flats' or 'condo(minium)s are usually in High or Medium rise complexes, built specifically for accomodation purposes.

Commonly, this form of accomodation consists of multiple bedrooms, toilet & washing facilities, kitchen, seperate lounge or 'living' area with an outside balcony, patio and carpark.Within the Cairns region, many of these properties are 'strata-titled' to individual 'mums & dads' unit owners, with rental authorisation back to the property caretaker or an outside real estate agent. Properties are rented on a short term basis to holiday makers or to long term permanent tenants. If booking at one of these places, keep in mind that the caretaker or 'onsite manager' is always on hand to rectify any defficiency, and is likely to take much more interest in ensuring an enjoyable stay for you, than if you are booked through another offsite agent. Most onsite managers also operate tour desks and a transfer service.Because of the configuration of apartments, these are probably the most comfortable accomodation for families and or groups of say 3 to 6 per apartment. Also for longer stays this accomodation allows much more space.
