Description

Enjoy a unique and exciting conservation experience on board Passions of Paradise. Take your Cairns snorkeling experience to the next level with a behind the scenes look into the work of a Marine Biologist on the Great Barrier Reef! This is a private touring option onboard Passions of Paradise regular day trip for enthusiastic ocean lovers to join a small group of likeminded individuals to engage in a day of real-world science. Help the team monitor the Great Barrier Reef while providing important data for the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority. The captain will select reef locations depending on the day's conditions from Flynn and Milne reef or further north at Norman and Hastings reefs. All reefs offer diverse reef structures teeming with exotic marine life. Your Master Reef Guide will brief you on the locations that are chosen. Relax with morning tea on the way out, get to know your host and your team and learn all about the marine eco-system from an expert. Review data collection techniques and prepare for your first in water activity. Delight in a guided snorkelling adventure led by your knowledgeable host, where you'll actively participate in fully supervised data collection and research activities. Savor a fresh tropical buffet lunch prepared onboard. Treat yourself to a selection of hot and cold dishes including buffet meats, salads, and tropical fruit. Travel to the second outer reef location for the day for another opportunity to learn about coral diversity, threats, and adaptions. End the day as the captain hoists the sails, and cruise back to Cairns. Enjoy a cold drink from the bar (own expense) and relax on journey home where you will assist your host inputting the data to the “Eye on the Reef” app.
